Alpine School District schools will be open on all regularly scheduled school days unless circumstances create health or safety issues. However, weather conditions can vary greatly in different neighborhoods and on different streets. We encourage parents to make attendance decisions for their children based on their specific ability to get to school safely.
Additionally, if your contact information has recently changed, please contact your local school with current information or update your information in Skyward. This will enable the school and/or the district to notify you in the event of a late start, closure, or early release. If you are not notified by the designated channels listed below, you can safely assume your school is open. If you are concerned about your child’s ability to safely travel to school, please exercise your parental discretion to make the decision that is best for your child.
If severe weather conditions or other events force a school closure, delayed start, or early release, the following procedures will be implemented.
If there is a decision to delay or cancel school, that decision will be made as early as possible on the day of bad weather. When bad weather moves in overnight or during the school day, the district closely monitors weather reports and road conditions by way of media outlets, as well as by district employees designated as “spotters” throughout the district area. Information about school delays/closures will be announced through social media outlets along with School Messenger. Social media outlets include:
· District Twitter – @alpineschools
· District Transportation Twitter – @ASDbus
· District Facebook Page – https://www.facebook.com/Alpine.School.District
· District website alpineschools.org
· TV stations
· Radio stations
Please keep in mind that weather conditions can vary greatly within an area/region.
As a reminder, parents always have the option to keep their children home from school due to weather related issues.
All school closures, delayed starts, or early releases are determined one day at a time.
No announcement means schools are open and regular schedules will be followed.
Parents are encouraged to create an emergency plan for their students. Parents should plan with their students where to go or what to do if a parent is not home and schools are closed, delayed, or dismissed early. In the event of an early release, elementary and middle school students will be held at school until parents or guardians are notified.
